To join Chip Ganassi's Nextel Cup team in NASCAR, according to Ganassi - with whom Montoya won the 1999 CART Championship - JPM said to him
I want to go racing againI honestly think that JPM's underachieving since his coming to F1 meant that he could no longer continue after this season, but I'm surprised by a move to NASCAR.

Well I'm sad that he's leaving F1 but I'm not surprised. Things just weren't going his way recently and no one in the F1 paddock was interested in his services. It will be better for him over there and he'll enjoy the racing a lot more. It's a shame that the corporate culture now present in F1 has ruined the racing and I for one can't wait until 2008 when the new rules come into play. Maybe JPM will be tempted to come back then!
